To make this version of my resume that’s about finance and business I started with a simple idea: I want to change my resume to apply for finance and business jobs and I want to talk about the skills I have that can be used in these jobs like taking care of clients making money and keeping track of finances. I then made it better with ideas like “Make my job at Automotion Films sound like I was a business owner, not just a person who makes videos” and “Add my skills with Excel, including things like VLOOKUP and IF functions to the part of the resume that talks about skills.”
The biggest thing that changed was the way I looked at it. My old resume talked about the things I can do like making movies and editing videos but the new version that the computer helped me with talked about the business side of things. Like running the day to day operations making money and using QuickBooks to keep track of finances. The names of my jobs were also changed to sound more like business jobs like “Founder and Owner” instead of “Founder and Videographer”.
What I figured out is that when you tell a computer what to do you have to be very clear about who you’re trying to talk to. If you are not clear you will get an answer but if you tell the computer exactly what kind of job you want and what skills you want to talk about you will get a much better answer. Changing what you say is not about making things up. It is about choosing what things you want to show people. I learned that finance and business are all, about being clear and specific and that is what I will do with my finance and business resume.
